DAVE: is waiting for someone like Neil McNulty to tell him how Twitter will add ANY value we (recruiters who follow the Fordyce model) do not already have…

DAVE: does not want to hear this from people who use job boards…

DAVE: would love a serious answer since he already has some time invested trying to find a use for Twitter himself…

DAVE: drank too much tea…he is now going to have to… HEY! Now I get it!

Dave Staats places top executives as well as implementation consultants with software companies. He also has made more placements in Artificial Intelligence than any other headhunter. His career began during the SDI (Star Wars) years and included placement of scientists in laser, stealth, and other high-tech fields. During a short hiatus from the recruiting industry in 1994 he obtained a Private Investigator's license which he keeps as a constant reminder that a headhunter is what he really is. Dave is on the Board of Directors of The Pinnacle Society and a founder of The Tennessee Recruiters Association. He has a BA from Western Illinois University.     According to Elaine Rigoli elsewhere on Fordyce today, “ExecuNet’s 2009 Executive Job Market Intelligence Report shows that search firms are using social networking for 37% of searches.” No disrespect to you Dave, but Twitter WORKS for recruiting. You gotta figure it out — but it WORKS once you do.

    Hi Dave.

    I both love and hate Twitter. Is that OK? I will just as easily argue either side of this dog gone thing.

    I’m starting to see it as it should be – another tool in my arsenal. The best tool? No – that’s my brain. The worst tool? Nope. Don’t get me started on that topic!

    So I place it squarely in the “things you should see if they work for me” pile. Guess what – it has worked a bit. In fact right now – today – this very moment – I’m trying to put together a placement with a split partner I met by tweeting the job with #splits in the message. Yes it was that alone that created the scenario within which I am now working on putting a placement together. So there is value in it. You be the judge on how much. For me – I really don’t see it becoming my main approach but can keep tapping into it from time to time.

    Oh – I’ve also wasted plenty of hours on it. I find myself reading some of the most absurd things people can come up with for long periods of time……..then I punch myself in the face and get back to work.

    Hey here’s a question. Can I make a placement here? On ERE? Is that where I am right now? Where am I? ERE? Fordyce? Kiplingers? What?

    Tallis, reasonable,yet ironic, advice.
    Jerry,That baggage you are toting must be getting heavy. I have asked people for info on how to use Twitter and so far I have Harry cheering and your ancedote about meeting one split partner after hours of use. Is that better or worse than Top Echelon? I have no idea. I also can’t answer for where you spend your time or why you don’t know where you are. I could write a pretty good essay on the value I have gotten from the Fordyce brand over the years.Finally, I fixed your comment.

    You know those guys who write stuff that you think should read even though you know that it’s probably pretty worthless. So you skim the first line and then say, “oh, the hell with this!”

    Well now, by breaking it up into tweets they can inject every single worthless word into your brainpan. From there, the only way to get it out is to click here.

    I know I’ve been fooling around in my responses to this post. That’s because I have been unable to come up with a way to consistently and constructively use Twitter in our business.

    I have heard about a couple of aberrations and one time incidents but that’s not enough for me to get excited about or spend any time on. I’m pretty sure that I don’t want to tweet my job openings to my “followers”or the tweetosphere at large. I can envision hordes of unqualified “candidates” calling, emailing and tweeting me to tell me that they are “perfect” for various openings. I already get more than enough of that just by posting jobs on our website. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I should tweet ‘em. If you think so, why? What’s your experience doing this?

    I’m just asking if anyone has had any experience using Twitter for our business in a consistent and constructive manner, please let us know. I am very interested in any serious responses, you know, one’s that go beyond “Twitter Rocks!” I’m sure Dave would be interested as well.
