I find that those who go the extra mile, go beyond what is expected when times are great will be the ones who survive too. We also find that those who work hard and think out of the box climb the ranks quicker and are much more highly regarded by management making them more valuable too. With regards to Human Resources, this functional area is much more respected and sitting at the execuitve table more now than ever before. Human Resources helps with retention so is very much needed during these turbulent times. Thanks for the info Mickey!

I liked your article. This seems pretty speculative. Has any of these thoughts come from other referenced sources or this opinion based? I happen to agree with just about everything you said with the exception of Marketing. I can see some companies not integrating "traditional" marketing into their executive decisions however we are an online marketing consultant that has been growing at over 54% year and just exceeded over 200 hires so far this year. This is an area that seems pretty recession proof as companies want to continue to make a presence in the online channel.
